Figs in syrup

If you like Arabic pastries, you will love this recipe. It is made with dried figs, so you can prepare it at any time of the year. It took me 15 timed minutes the last time I did it, so completion time is not a problem either.

INGREDIENTS (4 people):

  • One and a half cups of dried figs, cut into chunks
  • Half cup water
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • One teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • One teaspoon grated orange peel
  • The juice of a small orange

In a saucepan, mix the sugar, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon and the orange peel zest as well as the juice. Bring to a boil without stopping stirring and when this happens we lower the heat and add the figs cut into pieces. Cook until the syrup is thick and the figs are soft. They are served at room temperature or slightly cold (place in the upper part of the refrigerator for a maximum of two hours and then remove when you start to eat so that at dessert time it is not too cold).
