Batata Harra

One of the few Middle Eastern recipes that uses potatoes. The Batata Harra is very popular in Lebanon as part of the Mezze. They are easy to prepare and if you like spicy food - in fact the translation of 'Batata Harra' is 'Spicy Potato' - with an oriental flavor, this is your dish.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1 kg (2.2 lb) of potatoes
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 3 red hot chillies
  • Fresh coriander
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander (it gives an extra tasty touch to the fresh one)
  • Salt
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lime

Peel and cut the potatoes into small cubes.

Boil in salted water for a few minutes, but without completely softening. Then we remove from the water and pour them into a pan with plenty of olive oil until golden brown.

We take out the potato cubes and  place them on kitchen paper to absorb the excess oil.

Season with salt and pepper. In a frying pan with a jet of oil add the onion, red peppers, chillies, fresh coriander and ground coriander, all finely chopped (it is preferable to remove the seeds from the peppers and chillies).

Stir and fry for a minute to immediately incorporate the potatoes so that they are impregnated with these ingredients. Remove from oil, let drain in kitchen paper and serve immediately, drizzled with lime juice.
