Pomegranate and Orange Juice
Autumn has arrived and with it the typical fruits of the season such as kaki and pomegranate. Surely many of you want to eat pomegranate but it bothers you to extract the grains from the fruit and especially chew the inside of the grain, which is hard because it contains like a small wood splinter. Giving up the pomegranate for these problems is a shame because it is a fruit that is very rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, with clear effects against cancer. But there is a solution widely used in the Middle East that consists of taking its juice and mixing it with orange juice.
To extract the juice from the pomegranate you can use the same type of juicer that is used with oranges. However, in the case of the pomegranate, the lever juicer that obtains the juice by crushing the grains is better. This has an explanation. When cleaning a pomegranate it is observed that the grains are separated by a very thin yellowish sheet. If we use a conventional electric juicer with a rotary motor, these blades can release some juice that is extremely bitter. On the other hand, with a lever the problem is minimized. In any case, if a rotary juicer is used, we should only be careful to add a little more orange juice to compensate for the bitterness.
INGREDIENTS (4 cups):
- 8/12 oranges
- 1 pomegranate
We cut the pomegranate into two halves and squeeze it. We do the same with oranges. We mix the juices and serve them. It is essential to drink the juice immediately or the properties of the pomegranate will be irretrievably lost.
In the Middle East it is very common to drink pomegranate juice with orange. There are street stalls everywhere serving this popular juice.
